Job summary

The City of Bartow seeks an experienced Building Official to lead the Building Department, balancing technical construction expertise with exceptional customer service. The role directs permitting and inspection services for a growing Central Florida community and leads staff through a transition to an in-house model.

Reporting to the Assistant City Manager, the Building Official will implement code compliance, supervise personnel, and maintain high standards of service delivery.

Qualifications

• Minimum of four years of higher education in construction, engineering, architecture, building technology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible professional public experience in Building Inspection, Design, Construction, or a related field; or up to five years post-secondary construction education with 10 years total work experience.
• Five years of supervisory experience in a senior capacity.
• Florida DBPR licensing as Building Code Administrators within six months of appointment; candidate should review requirements at the provided link.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Florida Driver’s License.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities
