Job summary

City of Coweta, OK, is seeking a Building Official to enforce building codes and safety rules across development projects. The role involves issuing permits, reviewing plans, and inspecting sites to ensure compliance with current codes and standards.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree and 3–5 years of related experience, plus licensing: CBO, inspector credentials, and a valid Oklahoma driver’s license. MCP preferred. This is a full-time, on-site role with the city’s building department.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 3–5 years of building code/inspections experience.
• ICC CBO certification or ability to obtain; valid Oklahoma driver’s license.
• Combination Inspector Licensing required.
• Preferred MCP.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and enforce city building codes and related rules for property development and construction.
• Issue building and related permits and review plans (electrical, mechanical, plumbing as needed).
• Inspect construction sites to verify compliance with codes and safety standards.
• Develop and implement policies for building safety and inspections.
• Coordinate with Boards and attend public meetings when required.
• Maintain organized records of permits, plans and reports.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in a course of study related to the occupational field
