Job summary

The City of Greenacres is seeking a Building Inspector to review plans, conduct inspections, and ensure compliance with Florida building codes. The role requires certification as a Standard Inspector and Plans Examiner in at least one category, plus a valid Florida driver’s license. Strong communication and ethics are essential.

Four years of experience in inspection are expected, with consideration for additional licenses or cross-training. Bilingual candidates are a plus.

Qualifications

Minimum High School Diploma/G.E.D. with technical training in construction practices.
Four years of experience as a building inspector or related role.
Must be certified as a Standard Inspector and Plans Examiner in one category by Florida Statutes 468 and maintain active licenses.
Must have one additional license as a Standard Inspector OR Plans Examiner or qualify to obtain a provisional license within six months.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
Bi-lingual a plus.

Responsibilities

Review permits, plans, and documentation for compliance with building codes and regulations.
Inspect building installations for conformance to codes and local regulations.
Ensure contractors obtain applicable permits before inspections.
Ensure licensed contractors perform construction work.
Interact with the public regarding inspection procedures and requirements.
Prepare reports and maintain records of inspections and outcomes.
Stay informed of code changes affecting building systems.
