The Senior Building Inspector facilitates the coordination of the building inspection process, including inspection of all permitted and under-construction properties. The role involves performing routine and complex administrative and technical inspections, ensuring compliance with approved plans, laws, building codes, and regulations. The inspector monitors standards for fire and life safety, structural integrity, and public welfare. Additionally, the position involves code compliance plan reviews as needed and serving as a subject matter expert for internal and external customers. The incumbent works under the supervision of the Chief Building Official.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Coordinate and perform building inspections to ensure compliance with codes and regulations.
• Review plans and conduct code compliance assessments.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for building codes and inspection procedures.
• Work under the supervision of the Chief Building Official.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or GED.
• Five (5) years of experience in construction or inspection-related fields.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in construction science, industrial technology, engineering, architecture, or related field.
• Previous inspection experience.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

• Valid driver’s license (required).
• Texas State Plumbing Inspection License/TSPBE (required).
• Residential and Commercial Building Inspector/ICC certification (or within 12 months of hire).
• At least two (2) additional ICC certifications (or within 18 months of hire).
