This position requires possession of a valid ICC (International Code Council) certificate as a Plans Examiner, Combination Inspector or Building Inspector. Certifications must be attached to your application.
The County of Riverside's TLMA Building and Safety department currently has an opening for a Senior Building Inspector position across Riverside, Temecula, and Desert locations.
Under general supervision, the Senior Building Inspector performs the more complex or specialized inspections; examines residential, commercial and industrial building and grading plans; assists at the public counter in issuing permits; reviews water quality permit requirements; performs other related duties as required.
The Senior Building Inspector is the lead level classification in the Building Inspector series and reports to an appropriate supervisory or manager level position. Assignments include one or a combination of the following duties: performs the more complex or specialized inspections; conducts environmental site inspections; serves in a lead capacity over building inspection field or office operations; examines residential commercial and industrial building and grading plans to determine conformance to minimum codes, regulations and ordinances.
Competitive candidates will have hands-on experience with field inspections and overseeing construction projects from start to finish in commercial settings, knowledge of the processes involved in tilt-up and multi-story commercial construction, and possession of a valid Combination Inspector and/or Commercial Building Inspector certification.

OPTION I
Experience: Two years as a Building Inspector II with the County of Riverside.
OPTION II
Education: College level course work in building construction, inspection technology, engineering, architecture, or a closely related field to the assignment may substitute for up to one year of experience on the basis of 30 semester/45 quarter units equaling one year of experience.
Experience: Three years of performing building inspection, grading inspection, plans examining, civil engineering, architecture, or environmental enforcement experience. (Journey level experience in trades or professions directly associated with structural aspects of building construction may substitute for up to one year of the required experience on the basis of one year of trades experience equaling six months of qualifying experience).
ALL OPTIONS
Knowledge of: Inspection procedures and methods; principles and techniques of building construction and maintenance; the principles of environmental enforcement inspection procedures and methods; state and local codes, regulations and ordinances applicable to building and construction trades; permit tracking, financial and word processing software programs.
Ability to: Perform difficult and specialized building grading and environmental inspections; accurately check building plans and specifications; analyze, interpret and accurately review water quality permits and best management practices; maintain cooperative working relations with others; prepare clear, concise and complete reports, written correspondence and documentation; deal tactfully and effectively with developers, contractors and the general public; make accurate data entries and use automated inspection and time labor information using a personal computer.
Other Requirements
License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required.
Must possess a valid ICC (International Code Council) certificate as a Plans Examiner, Combination Inspector or Building Inspector.
Possession of a valid Combination Inspector or Commercial Building Inspector is desirable.
