Job summary

SME seeks a Senior Building Enclosure Consultant to blend hands-on technical work with business development, growing our enclosure practice through existing networks and client relationships.

The role includes evaluating enclosure systems, performing forensic assessments, and delivering proposals, reports, and specifications while guiding project execution and collaborating with SME subcontractors.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years in design, construction, investigation and reporting for building enclosure systems.
  • Credentials: RA, PE, RBEC or CxA+BE/BECxP as applicable.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes and industry guidelines (IBC, ASHRAE, ASTM, AAMA, NRCA).

Responsibilities

  • Expand enclosure services by leveraging existing networks and cultivating client relationships.
  • Lead business development: identify opportunities, prepare proposals, present to clients.
  • Act as seller-doer balancing technical work with client engagement.
  • Evaluate enclosure systems and perform field diagnostics and reporting.
  • Prepare deliverables: proposals, reports, specs and repair details.
  • Oversee project schedules, deliverables, fees and invoicing; support timely execution.
  • Interact with client representatives and SME subcontractors; collaborate on recommendations.

Weare seeking aSeniorBuilding Enclosure Consultant who thrives as aseller doer, someone eager to grow their practice byleveragingtheir current network and fostering strong client relationships.In this role, youwillhave the unique opportunity to blendhands ontechnical work with business development, contributing to the growth of our enclosure services and playing a vital part in advancing our expanding team.

Responsibilities:
  • Expandbuilding enclosureservicesbyleveragingyour existing network and fostering new client relationships.
  • Maintain client relationships and support business developmenteffortin the region.
  • Lead business development efforts, includingidentifyingopportunities, preparing proposals, and presenting to prospective clients.
  • Act as a seller-doer by balancing technical project work with client engagement and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Evaluate building enclosure systems (e.g.cladding, fenestration,curtain wall, air barrier systems, roofing, waterproofing).
  • Preform forensic assessments of building enclosure failures, including field diagnostic,testingand reporting.
  • Prepareproject deliverables such asproposals, reports, technical specifications and repairor replacementdetails.
  • Oversee variousaspects of projects, such as project schedule, deliverables, fees, and invoicing, and provide directassistanceto ensuretimelyproject execution.
  • Productively interact with client representatives and SME subcontractors.
  • Collaboratewith group to develop practical recommendations for the client.
  • Help to enhance the visibility of SME’sexpertise. In this regard, your participation in professional organizations outside of your regular employment is encouraged.
  • Work with junior level staff to perform day-to-day project tasks.
  • Contribute to company-wideobjectivesthrough involvement in office and company development activities.
  • Performother duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Minimum10years of experience in the design, construction, investigation, and development of technical reports and repair project documents of various new and existing building enclosure systems.
  • Registered Architect (RA), Professional Engineer (PE), IIBEC Registered Building Enclosure Consultant (RBEC), or Certified Building Enclosure Commissioning Provider (CxA+BEand/orBECxP).
  • Strong understanding of construction materials, assemblies, building codes, standards, and industry guidelines (IBC, ASHRAE, ASTM, AAMA, NRCA, etc.).
  • Technical experience in detailing of various building enclosure elements as well as detailing the interfaces between different building enclosure systems such as: facades, curtain walls, fenestrations, glazing systems, sealants and coatings, insulation, air barriers, weather barriers, cladding assemblies, low-slope roofing, steep-slope roofing, below-grade waterproofing, and plaza/terrace waterproofing, etc.
  • Excellent technical, written,graphicaland verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in an efficient and organized manner independently and with a team, as well as the desire for continuous learning.
  • Ability to learn new concepts and adapt to challenges.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to safely use andoperateladders and stairs, scaffolds,articulatinglifts, swing-stagesand other equipment.
  • Ability to travelto project sites and other SME offices.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds, work from heights, work in tight spaces, and work in inclement weather.
  • Ability to work overtime, including weekends on an as-needed basis.
  • Medically fit to use personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to drive and safelyoperatea motor vehicle.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Previous consulting firm experience, ideally in building enclosure or building science–focused practice.
  • Extensive experience with building science and performance evaluation, including condensation control, ventilation strategies, thermal and hygrothermal analysis, and moisture vapor transmission.
