The Building People, LLC, has a full-time Senior Building Controls Technician position available to support the expansion, upgrade, or replacement of building automation hardware and software for smart building infrastructure. The role involves working independently to meet project requirements with limited supervision. The technician will be responsible for programming, configuring, and testing Direct Digital Control (DDC) building automation and control systems.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Design and engineer control system hardware and software programming based on project plans, specifications, and other contract documents.
- Program projects with varying levels of complexity.
- Perform network troubleshooting, database troubleshooting, and repair programming.
- Collaborate with the engineering team on system configuration, network and software requirements, graphics, programming, and sequences of operations.
- Develop and configure sequences of operations, programming, graphics, databases, networks, and integrations into third-party systems.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and redlines.
- Provide owner training as required.
- Execute system commissioning and functional testing.
- Assist in installation of control hardware and startup of new hardware installations.
- Provide project management assistance and interface directly with customers.
- Supervise subcontractors and suppliers as needed.
- Mentor lower-level technicians through on-the-job training.
- This position requires a minimum of 25% travel.
Required Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Programming skills and strong analytical abilities.
- Effective communication and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with electronics and basic electrical circuits.
- Thorough understanding of tools and control theory related to HVAC systems.
- Knowledge of DDC communication protocols such as BACnet, LON, Modbus, etc.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to work collaboratively.
Required Experience/Education
- At least 3 years of experience in programming, startup, and commissioning of control systems.
- Niagara N4 certification.
- Experience with multiple control manufacturers is a plus.
- Knowledge of control equipment installation and ancillary devices.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb, crawl, and work at heights.
- Willingness to lift up to 35 pounds.
