Job summary
District of Columbia Department of Buildings (DOB) seeks an Inspector in the Office of Construction and Building Standards (OCBS) to support code enforcement and field inspections in the DC area.
The role requires specialized experience and ICC inspections certifications, with duties including reporting, issuing enforcement actions, and coordinating with property owners, architects, and engineers to ensure compliance throughout construction projects.
Qualifications
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade.
- Possession of ICC Commercial and Residential Combination Inspector Certifications.
- ICC Fire Inspector I Certification and related ICC certifications must be maintained.
- Knowledge of building codes and enforcement procedures.
Responsibilities
- Prepare inspection reports detailing location, compliance, or non-compliance with permits, plans and codes.
- Issue Stop Work Orders, Notices of Infraction, and/or Correction Orders as needed.
- Upload inspection results to DOB databases daily and maintain defensible records.
- Conduct discussions with owners, architects, engineers, contractors, and the public regarding permits, plans, materials, methods, and codes.
- Assist customers in obtaining compliance with applicable construction codes during the construction process.
