Job summary

City of Big Spring is seeking a Building Official to enforce building codes and oversee inspections for residential and commercial construction. The role includes supervising the City Facilities Department and guiding code enforcement activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, public administration, or related field, or equivalent education/experience.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in building inspection, code administration, construction, plan review, or related field.
  • Possession of a valid Texas driver’s license and ability to obtain state inspections certifications within a year.

Responsibilities

  • Review residential and commercial plans for compliance with building, safety, and accessibility codes.
  • Prepare and issue permits for residential construction.
  • Inspect new residential and commercial construction for safety and code compliance.
  • Oversee City Facilities Department and supervise staff.
  • Serve as Project and Construction Manager when required.
