Job summary

Hoffman Building Technologies in Nashville seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineering Designer to lead the design and documentation of building automation and HVAC control systems. You will own hardware submittals, controls drawings, programming, operator graphics, and databases for commercial projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
• 7+ years in building automation, HVAC controls design, or mechanical systems engineering, including 3+ years senior/lead level.
• Experience preparing hardware submittals and controls drawings for commercial HVAC projects.
• Hands-on programming, graphics, and database experience on BAS platforms (e.g., Metasys, Honeywell, Desigo, Tridium Niagara, Distech, Trane).
• Strong understanding of HVAC equipment, psychrometrics, and control loops (PID).
• Working knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, and IP networking.

Responsibilities

• Prepare complete hardware submittal packages with BOMs, data sheets, valve/damper schedules, sequences of operation, and network diagrams.
• Review mechanical plans to select controllers, sensors, valves, actuators, dampers, and related devices.
• Respond to review comments and manage resubmittals on schedule.
• Develop controls drawings (system schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, point lists, network architecture).
• Write and refine sequences of operation meeting specs, codes, and energy requirements.
• Create, test, and debug controller programs for HVAC equipment and integrate with BACnet/Modbus/LonWorks.
