Railroad Construction Company, Inc. is seeking an experienced and driven Senior Bridge/Structures Superintendent to lead field operations throughout Eastern Massachusetts and the broader New England region. This role is focused on highway and transportation infrastructure projects, including bridge construction, structural concrete, rehabilitation, demolition, and related civil work.
If you have a strong background in bridge construction, thrive in fast-paced environments, and take pride in safely and efficiently delivering complex structural projects, we want to hear from you.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing, employee-owned company where you’ll provide field leadership on critical infrastructure projects, coordinate skilled teams and resources, and play a key role in delivering high-profile highway and bridge work throughout the region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enforce company and OSHA safety policies and project-specific safety requirements.
- Provide day-to-day field leadership for bridge, structural, and heavy civil construction operations.
- Plan and coordinate work activities, sequencing, crew requirements, equipment, materials, and short-term schedules.
- Coordinate temporary works, including cofferdams, excavation support, falsework, formwork, erection plans, access systems, and traffic or railroad protection.
- Review drawings, specifications, contract requirements, schedules, submittals, and construction procedures to identify constructability concerns and develop practical field solutions.
- Coordinate and supervise crews, Forepersons, subcontractors, and suppliers while collaborating with project managers and engineers on schedules, phasing, resource allocation, and project execution.
- Coordinate work around active traffic, utilities, railroad operations, environmental restrictions, and adjacent construction activities.
- Manage labor, materials, and equipment to meet production, cost, quality, and schedule goals; monitor productivity and take corrective action when needed.
- Coordinate inspections, testing, quality-control activities, and project documentation, including daily reports, manpower and equipment records, quantities, and progress.
- Communicate effectively with owners, agencies, inspectors, union representatives, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders; attend project meetings and provide technical expertise related to bridge and structural construction.
- Support preconstruction, constructability reviews, estimating, and project pursuits as needed, while developing Forepersons and Craft Personnel through coaching, mentoring, and clear performance expectations.
Requirements
To be considered, preferred applicants should present the following:
- Minimum 10+ years of progressively responsible heavy civil construction experience with a strong focus on bridge, roadway, and heavy structures, including bridge construction, rehabilitation/replacement, structural concrete, reinforcing steel, formwork, falsework, structural steel, demolition, sheeting, piling, foundations, and shoring.
- Proven experience working on DOT or public transportation projects; MassDOT, CTDOT, RIDOT or similar agencies strongly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and technical submittals, with a strong understanding of constructability, productivity, cost control, scheduling, quality control, and construction safety.
- Proficiency with electronic plans, project-management applications, email, and standard field-reporting systems.
- Significant field-supervision experience on bridge and structural construction projects.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple crews, subcontractors, equipment, and complex construction sequences.
- Strong leadership, communication, planning, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage changing field conditions and make sound decisions under schedule pressure.
- Must be willing to travel throughout the Eastern Massachusetts Region; must have a valid driver’s license or reliable transportation and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
