This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Bridge Project Manager to help build and lead the bridge team in Kentucky for a rapidly growing firm that is headquartered in Columbus, OH. Our ideal candidate has excellent technical bridge skills and leadership abilities, and the ability to identify and lead pursuits. The position is well suited to an engineer that enjoys being the task leader on bridge projects, serving as a mentor for junior staff development, implementing design and quality control processes, and identifying potential projects to pursue. The position will have project management responsibilities and promoting the technical excellence of our bridge staff will be an important responsibility. In addition to well-established Project Managers this position is well-suited to experienced engineers who are ready to step into a leadership position.
About Compass:
Founded in 2020, Compass Infrastructure Group offers civil engineering design and project management services, specializing in bridge and highway design, safety studies, inspections, constructability, and other transportation related services. Compass has grown to over 40 employees and works as a consultant for transportation projects primarily with public clients including ODOT and local governments throughout Ohio. Our company expanded into Kentucky in 2024 and currently has two full time employees in Kentucky; a Kentucky Office Leader and a Senior Roadway Engineer/Project Manager. Our primary clients in Kentucky are the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) and local municipalities and counties.
Job Description:
The position is well-balanced between business development, project management, and technical responsibilities. Based on the firm’s growth trajectory, this position will offer outstanding career development, including being a primary point of contact with clients within your region. Compass has a solid backlog of existing bridge projects, making this a low-pressure opportunity. You will serve as the head of the bridge group in Kentucky by identifying potential projects to pursue, helping prepare project proposals, leading bridge tasks, implementing quality control, and hiring and mentoring junior staff.
Responsibilities will include:
· Be responsible for project scope, budget, and schedule conformance
· Ensure quality by implementing Compass’s quality control procedures
· Develop and implement standard practices and procedures for bridge projects
· Identify clients/projects within your region and lead business development initiatives
· Develop project scopes and fees
· Mentor new staff as the firm grows
· Consult on hiring of future staff members
Project Management and Business Development experience is a plus. However, less experienced candidates with excellent leadership potential will also be strongly considered. If you have been the “person behind the person” and are ready to lead, we encourage you to apply.
What You Bring:
· Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Civil Engineering
· Licensed Professional Engineer in Kentucky
· 10 to 20+ years of transportation industry experience
· Willingness to serve as primary point of contact and the face of the firm in your region
· Experience working on KYTC projects
· Experience leading bridge projects as project manager and/or task manager
· Proven hands-on experience in all aspects of bridge design projects
· Ability to work independently preparing engineering reports, calculations, and overseeing plan development
· Experience preparing reports, plan packages, and proposals
· Proven leadership abilities
· Cooperative, team-oriented spirit
· Familiarity with engineering software packages such as: OpenBridge Designer, MDX, AASHTOWare BrR, LPile, and more.
