Job summary

gpac represents a respected multi-state transportation engineering consultancy in central Iowa seeking a senior bridge engineer to lead the structures practice, mentor staff, and grow the team.

You will serve as the technical lead on bridges ranging from culverts to complex multi-span concrete and steel girder structures, while managing scope, schedule, and budget on multidisciplinary roadway and rail projects.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil or Structural Engineering (MS preferred).
• PE required; Iowa PE or able to get it within 6 months.
• 10+ years of bridge and structural design on transportation projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead structures work locally: mentoring staff, balancing workload, and owning QA/QC.
• Serve as technical lead on bridges from culverts to complex multi-span concrete and steel girder structures.
• Manage structures scope, schedule, and budget on multidisciplinary roadway and rail projects.
• Act as primary client contact, supporting interviews, meetings, and public presentations.
• Review submittals, answer RFIs, and support construction in the field.
• Build fee estimates and staffing plans, and track project financials.
• Drive proposals and pursuit strategy to grow the structures practice.
• Grow into a broader leadership role as the Iowa structures team expands.
