Job summary

Jobtailor in Reno, NV seeks an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer with Nevada PE/SE licenses to lead a project team focused on lateral structural design for roadway projects. You will guide engineers, ensure project quality, and drive client engagement.

Responsibilities include managing budgets and schedules, advancing business development, and serving as Engineer of Record for selected work. Strong communication and regulatory knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required.
Professional Engineer license (PE) in Nevada required.
Structural Engineering license (SE) in Nevada required.
8+ years of relevant experience in transportation engineering preferred.
2+ years in management or leadership role preferred.
Design experience with AASHTO LFRFD, AISC, ACI and other NA codes.
Proficiency in engineering software tools listed.

Responsibilities

Lead a team of engineers, mentoring and developing staff.
Participate in hiring to build a strong team culture.
Drive business development by securing new contracts and maintaining client relationships.
Oversee structural engineering projects to meet schedule and budget targets.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Team Leadership: Lead a team of engineers; providing guidance, mentoring, support, and professional development opportunities. Fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented work environment.
Recruiting: Actively participate in the hiring process for new team members, ensuring the selection of qualified and motivated individuals who align with our culture and values.
Business Development: Procure new contracts and clients by identifying opportunities, developing proposals, and maintaining strong relationships with existing and potential clients.
Project Management: Oversee and manage structural engineering projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.
Regulatory Compliance: Help ensure all projects comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
Client Engagement: Serve as a point of contact for clients, addressing their needs and ensuring their satisfaction with our services.
Technical Expertise: Provide technical knowledge and guidance on lateral structural engineering within the roadway industry, including areas like bridge and wall design. In addition, being an Engineer of Record for your own work as well as work completed under your direction.
Strategic Planning: Contribute to the strategic planning and growth of the local office, setting and achieving long‑term goals.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural engineering required
Professional Engineering license (PE) in Nevada required
Structural Engineering license (SE) in Nevada required
8+ years of relevant experience in transportation engineering preferred
2+ years in management or leadership role preferred
Design experience with AASHTO LFRFD, AISC, ACI, and other North American design codes and standards
Proficiency in MathCAD, STAAD Pro, LPILE, LEAP Bridge software, MDX, Bentley/MicroStation products, Midas, LARSA 4D, or other equivalent engineering bridge software
Proficiency in seismic and non‑linear analysis as well as soil structure interaction analysis, and post‑tensioned concrete
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Detail oriented and self‑starter; can work independently and in a team environment
Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple high‑priority assignments in a fast‑paced environment
Willingness to learn, provide feedback, and receive feedback
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
Understanding of NDOT processes and agreements is preferred.
