Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a senior Civil/Bridge Engineer in Raleigh, NC to lead complex bridge design projects and NBIS inspections. You will ensure quality contract documents, coordinate with NCDOT, and guide a team through design-bid-build, design-build, and CMGC projects.

The role requires a PE license in NC or within 6 months, ABET-accredited BS, and 16+ years of relevant experience. Strong client communication and leadership are essential for successful project delivery.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology or related discipline from ABET accredited program.
• 16+ years of relevant experience.
• PE license in NC or ability to obtain via comity within 6 months of employment.
• Experience designing bridge projects and preparing complete contract documents with knowledge of NCDOT policies and procedures.
• Experience with NCDOT Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, CMGC projects.
• Strong knowledge of AASHTO bridge specifications.
• Experience with bridge design software; MicroStation/Open Bridge.
• Development of complete contract advertisement documents including plans, engineers estimate, bid quantities, and special provisions.
• NBIS-certified bridge inspection team leader with NHI-130055 certification a plus.
• Communication with clients and business development; ability to manage scope, manhours, and budgets.
• Travel in-state and out-of-state as needed.

Education

ABET accredited BS in Civil Engineering or related field

• Provide Pre-Construction and Post Construction support in the design and rehabilitation of bridges, retaining walls, culverts, and sound barriers
• Handle quality control/quality assurance of contract documents and preparation of construction plans, specifications, special provisions, cost estimates and any required technical reports
• Assist with growing the firm’s NBIS Bridge Inspection program in North Carolina
• Mentor and train younger staff
• Participate in work planning and production scheduling, growth visioning, managing project budgets, scopes, schedules, and clients
• Collaborate in planning and designing transportation-related projects, innovating and adapting at identifying problems and finding solutions

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology or other relevant discipline from an ABET accredited program
• 16+ years of relevant experience
• Must be a Professional Engineer (PE) licensed in North Carolina or the ability to obtain through comity from another state within 6 months of employment
• Experience designing bridge projects and preparing / assembling complete set of contract documents and having strong knowledge of NCDOT policies and procedures
• Experience with NCDOT Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, and CMGC projects
• Strong knowledge of AASHTO bridge specifications
• Experience with a variety of bridge design software
• Hands‑on experience with MicroStation/Open Bridge software
• Development of complete contract advertisement documents including plans, engineers estimate, bid quantities, contract standard specifications, and project special provisions
• NBIS-certified bridge inspection team leader with current NHI-130055 (Safety Inspection of In‑Service Bridges) certification a plus
• Experience with NCDOT bridge safety inspections and WIGINS a plus
• Business Development and experience communicating and coordinating with clients
• Ability to develop and manage scope, manhour and fee estimates, schedules
• Experience mentoring, training, and managing staff
• Positive attitude and willingness to work cooperatively with others
• Ability to manage and lead multiple projects, assignments, and teams
• Ability to travel in‑state and out‑of‑state on limited as needed basis
• Exceptional communication and organization skills
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
