Job summary

LJB Inc. in North Carolina seeks a Structural Bridge Engineer to lead analysis and design of bridges and related structures. You’ll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, efficient, and compliant bridge solutions for state and local projects.

The ideal candidate has a Civil Engineering degree, a North Carolina PE, and 5–10 years of bridge/culvert design experience, with familiarity of NCDOT guidelines and strong mentorship abilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required.
• North Carolina PE licensure is required.
• 5–10 years of bridge/culvert design experience.
• Experience with NCDOT design guidelines, procedures, and plan preparation.
• Thorough knowledge of bridge design fundamentals and related practices.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the team on the analysis and design of bridges and related structures, including steel and prestressed concrete beams, concrete slabs, pedestrian bridges, culverts, retaining walls, grade separations, stream crossings, bridge rehabilitations, and design-build pursuits.
• Perform and review bridge hydraulic analyses, including HEC-RAS modeling, scour evaluations, and waterway adequacy assessments to support bridge and culvert design.
• Coordinate with infrastructure teams to ensure compliance with FEMA, FHWA, and NCDOT hydraulic design criteria and to support state floodplain permitting and documentation.
• Lead bridge projects and coordinate tasks as a bridge task coordinator, managing schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
• Support teams in other offices with bridge and hydraulic design tasks and plan production.
• Mentor junior engineers and perform quality control reviews of structural and hydraulic deliverables.
• Develop technical memorandums, specifications, feasibility studies, evaluations, and reports, and support proposal development.
• Other duties as assigned.
