Job summary

Amazon in Seattle is seeking a Research Scientist II to join the Electric Propulsion Subsystem team, solving advanced problems in battery management systems and energy storage. You will design, develop, and validate BMS hardware and algorithms from concept through production, working on high-voltage battery packs to push performance, safety, and energy density.

Qualifications

Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or related field.
3+ years of developing electric propulsion and/or battery management systems.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and validate BMS architectures for high-voltage lithium-ion packs from concept to production.
Develop safety controls, fault detection, diagnostic mechanisms, cell balancing, and thermal protection boundaries for functional safety.
Develop SOC/SOH/SOP estimation algorithms using machine learning models.
Support HIL testing, bench verification, and real-world data analysis to validate BMS algorithms.
Design charging infrastructure interfaces and interoperability with external charging systems.
Maintain design documentation including schematics, algorithm specs, and test results.
