Merck & Co., Rahway, NJ, is seeking a Senior Specialist Safety & Environment to lead biosafety and industrial hygiene initiatives across research, development and pilot-scale operations.

You will be the primary technical resource for biological safety compliance, delivering SOPs, training, risk assessments, and containment oversight for BSCs and laminar flow hoods.

Qualifications

BS in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biosafety, or related field; MS preferred.
8+ years EHS experience with 4+ years biosafety or lab safety in pharma/biotech/academic/clinical.
Experience implementing biosafety containment, risk assessments, and lab safety protocols.
Industrial hygiene monitoring and ventilation measurements experience.
Strong written and verbal communication; translate data for non-EHS stakeholders.
Lead biosafety initiatives, MOC/PHAs involvement.

Responsibilities

Lead biosafety program development, SOPs, and training curricula.
Conduct biosafety risk assessments for projects and pilot-scale processes.
Oversee containment systems (BSCs, hoods) and lab safety audits.
Support IBC reviews and capital projects integrating biosafety into facilities.
Assist in incident investigations, change control, and regulatory readiness.
