Job summary

Washington University in St. Louis seeks a senior biosafety leader to oversee the Biological Safety Division, act as Chief Administrative Officer for the IBC, and serve as the Responsible Official for the select agent program.

This role provides expert consultation, policy development, and training across the university in accordance with federal regulations. Responsibilities include risk assessment, laboratory inspections (BSL3), and coordinating safety compliance while supervising biosafety

Qualifications

• Masters degree in biological sciences with at least seven years of EH&S (or related field) experience or graduate degree (PhD or MD) with at least five years of EH&S experience.
• Certified Biological Safety Professional (CBSP) or Registered Biosafety Professional (RBP).

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Chief Administrative Officer and ex officio member of the WU Institutional Biological Safety Committee (IBC).
• Provide consultation to University departments on biological safety matters including hazardous agents, lab design, permits, and training.
• Develop training materials, policies, and procedures for safe handling of hazardous materials.
• Manage the Biological Safety division and supervise staff (as applicable).
• Inspect the University’s BSL3 and select agent laboratories.
• Serve as the Responsible Official for the university’s select agent program per 42 CFR Part 73.
