Job summary

Freenome is seeking a Senior Bioinformatics Research Engineer to advance our computational platform for R&D, developing and deploying bioinformatics software and tooling in close collaboration with computational biologists, ML scientists and software engineers.

Hybrid role based in our Brisbane, California headquarters (2–3 days in office) or remote. You will design scalable data pipelines, lead bioinformatics research engineering, and translate scientific roadmaps into production-ready software.

Qualifications

• PhD in a quantitative field such as computational biology, cancer biology, statistics, bioinformatics, computer science, or B.S./M.S. and equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of experience with bioinformatics infrastructure, automation, and software engineering.
• Robust history of delivering major technical projects or analyses.
• Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in large-scale systems.

Responsibilities

• Work at the intersection of computational biology, ML research, software engineering and biological data.
• Lead development of Freenome’s bioinformatics research engineering framework and internal tools.
• Build for growth and scaling as research moves toward product development.
