Job summary

NYU Grossman School of Medicine invites applications for a Senior Bioinformatics Programmer. This role leads computational analyses across cancer genomics projects, primarily in an HPC environment, and interfaces with experimental and clinical teams to translate data into biological insights.

You will design robust pipelines for NGS data, implement reproducible workflows, manage large datasets, and contribute to publications.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or MSc in Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, Computer Science or related field.
• 3+ years of experience with next-generation sequencing data.
• Experience building computational pipelines for analyses of sequencing data.
• Proficiency in Unix/Linux/HPC environments.
• Proficiency with Snakemake/Nextflow or similar workflow systems.
• Proficiency with Git/GitHub.
• Strong English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Bioinformatics Pipelines: Develop, execute, optimize, standardize, and maintain robust pipelines for NGS data processing.
• Computational Analyses: Develop custom computational approaches for downstream analysis and visualization.
• HPC Computing & Troubleshooting: Ensure efficient execution within HPC infrastructure and coordinate with HPC teams.
• Reproducibility & Version Control: Establish standardized workflows and document with version control systems.
• Computational Infrastructure & Data Management: Manage data storage, curation, and access using Docker/Singularity, GitHub, and cloud resources.
• Computational Operations Management: Oversee day-to-day computational needs and liaise with IT vendors.
• Data Interpretation & Communication: Present analyses to team and translate findings for biology colleagues.
• Professional Development: Stay current with advances in cancer genomics and bioinformatics methods.
• Additional Responsibilities: Support evolving computational and analytical needs.
