Job summary

Georgia System Operations Corporation (GSOC) seeks a Senior Benefits Specialist to serve as a senior contributor and subject matter expert across benefits programs for the GSOC Family of Companies.

The role may own health and welfare, retirement, leave, wellness, compliance, benefits technology, or related programs while maintaining broad knowledge across the portfolio. Ideal for experienced professionals with program ownership and strong analytical/problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible benefits experience with ownership of at least one complex program.
  • Experience across multiple benefits disciplines or cross-coverage in a broad portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Own one or more benefits disciplines and serve as primary resource for assigned programs.
  • Maintain cross-portfolio knowledge and provide backup coverage and continuity.
  • Interpret plan provisions and resolve complex eligibility, enrollment, and vendor matters.
  • Maintain program calendars, procedures, controls, and service standards for timely delivery.
  • Coordinate retirement and saving plan activities, leave matters, wellness, and related associate support.
  • Support compliance under ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, ACA, FMLA, ADA, and related laws.
  • Coordinate audits, testing, filings, notices, and plan documentation; maintain audit-ready records.
  • Lead user acceptance testing, data validation, reconciliations, and issue resolution with HRIS/payroll vendors.

Own Complex Benefits Programs, Strengthen Service Delivery, and Support Associate Wellbeing

Georgia System Operations Corporation (GSOC) is seeking a Senior Benefits Specialist to serve as an advanced individual contributor and subject matter expert supporting associate benefit programs across the Family of Companies.

Depending on organizational needs, this role may own health and welfare, retirement, leave and accommodation, wellness, compliance, benefits technology, or related programs while maintaining broad knowledge across the benefits portfolio.This opportunity is ideal for an experienced benefits professional who combines program ownership, sound judgment, analytical problem-solving, strong service, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

What You'll Do

You will:

  • Own one or more benefits disciplines and serve as the primary resource and escalation point for assigned programs.
  • Maintain cross-portfolio knowledge and provide backup coverage, knowledge transfer, and operational continuity.
  • Interpret plan provisions and resolve complex eligibility, enrollment, claims, coverage, contribution, deduction, leave, retirement, and vendor matters.
  • Maintain program calendars, procedures, controls, documentation, and service standards to ensure accurate and timely delivery.
  • Coordinate retirement and savings plan activities, leave and accommodation matters, wellness initiatives, and related associate support based on assigned portfolio.
  • Support compliance requirements under ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, ACA, FMLA, ADA, Medicare Part D, cafeteria plan rules, retirement plan requirements, and other applicable laws.
  • Coordinate audits, testing, filings, notices, plan documentation, eligibility reviews, nondiscrimination activities, and corrective actions while maintaining audit-ready records.
  • Lead user acceptance testing, data validation, reconciliations, and resolution of HCM, payroll, vendor, enrollment, deduction, and contribution issues.
  • Manage assigned vendors and monitor service, data quality, issue resolution, and accountability.
  • Lead annual enrollment and other major cycles, projects, implementations, transitions, renewals, audits, and program changes.
  • Analyze utilization, participation, cost, leave, service, vendor, and data trends and develop practical recommendations and leadership reporting.
  • Provide guidance, cross-training, and constructive feedback to Benefits Specialists and Associate Services team members.
  • Maintain procedures, job aids, training resources, and knowledge‑transfer documentation.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training, and extensive directly related experience may be considered.
  • Ideally, 5+ years of progressively responsible benefits experience, including independent ownership of at least one complex benefits program.
  • Experience supporting multiple benefits disciplines or providing cross‑coverage across a broad portfolio.
  • Experience managing vendors and leading recurring cycles, projects, audits, implementations, or process improvements.
  • Experience with an HCM, benefits administration, payroll, vendor, reporting, or comparable benefits technology platform.
  • Ability to interpret plan documents, policies, contracts, and regulatory guidance and resolve complex matters with limited day-to-day direction.
  • Strong analytical, critical‑thinking, problem‑solving, communication, stakeholder‑influence, organization, and relationship‑management skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive associate, health, financial, disability, and organizational information with discretion.

Benefits Program Expertise
  • Advanced experience in health and welfare, retirement, leave and accommodation, wellness, benefits compliance, or benefits technology.
  • Experience serving as the primary owner and escalation resource for a complex benefits program.
Compliance, Data & Technology
  • Experience with benefits compliance, audits, testing, filings, plan documentation, data validation, reconciliation, and controls.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; Infor CloudSuite experience is preferred.
  • Experience improving data quality, reporting, controls, service delivery, and associate experience.
  • Experience managing carriers, administrators, recordkeepers, leave administrators, wellness partners, consultants, or other vendors.
  • Experience leading annual enrollment, implementations, transitions, renewals, audits, or program changes.
Certifications
  • CEBS, CBP, PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or a related professional certification is preferred but not required.
