Job description

About the Role
About BHC Insurance

BHC Insurance is the second-largest, privately held, insurance agency in Arkansas. As one of the fastest-growing agencies in the region, we are committed to providing exceptional service, innovative solutions, and long-term value to our clients. Our Employee Benefits team works with employers to build and manage benefit programs that balance cost, risk, employee needs, compliance, and long-term strategy.

We believe great account management goes beyond processing renewals and solving problems. It means understanding the client’s business, anticipating needs, managing details, bringing forward ideas, and helping employers make better decisions about their benefits programs.

About the Role

BHC Insurance is seeking an experienced Senior Benefits Account Manager to join our Employee Benefits team.

This position serves as a primary relationship and account management resource for mid-sized and larger employer clients. You will work closely with the Benefits Consultant/Producer and internal team to manage the client’s benefits program throughout the year, including strategy, renewals, marketing, implementation, compliance, communication, enrollment, vendor management, and ongoing service.

The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, analytical, comfortable working directly with clients, and experienced with increasingly complex employee benefit programs. Knowledge of fully insured, level-funded, self-funded, and captive arrangements is highly valued.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of group employee benefits clients and serve as a primary day-to-day contact.
  • Develop strong relationships with HR, finance, executive leadership, carriers, administrators, and vendor partners.
  • Partner with the Benefits Consultant/Producer to understand each client’s business, objectives, benefits philosophy, financial priorities, and long-term strategy.
  • Manage the annual client service calendar, including pre-renewal planning, renewals, implementation, open enrollment, mid-year reviews, stewardship meetings, and ongoing plan management.
  • Proactively identify upcoming deadlines, client needs, service issues, and opportunities without requiring continual direction.
  • Manage renewal marketing and RFP processes with carriers, TPAs, PBMs, stop-loss providers, and other vendors.
  • Review proposals and market comparisons, including pricing, plan design, funding, contract terms, networks, and overall value.
  • Negotiate with carriers and vendors regarding pricing, plan design, service issues, and implementation.
  • Review claims experience, utilization, enrollment, fixed costs, benchmarking, and other available data to identify opportunities for cost management and plan improvement.
  • Monitor vendor performance and coordinate resolution of claims, billing, eligibility, enrollment, administrative, and service issues.
  • Research and respond to complex benefit questions from clients and employees.
  • Review post-renewal billing to verify rates, enrollment, and plan changes are accurate.
  • Maintain complete and accurate client records, correspondence, policies, and workflows within Applied EPIC and applicable document repositories.
  • Conduct regular client meetings to review plan performance, upcoming initiatives, challenges, and recommendations.
Benefit Strategy & Marketplace Management

Support clients across a broad range of benefit strategies and solutions, including:

  • Fully insured, level-funded, self-funded, and captive health plans
  • Stop-loss insurance
  • Third-party administrators

  • Chronic-condition management
  • Diabetes, weight management, and MSK solutions
  • Cancer and specialty-care programs
  • Behavioral health and Employee Assistance Programs
  • Leave management
  • Wellness programs
  • Voluntary and worksite benefits

The goal is not simply to introduce more vendors, but to help clients evaluate which solutions meaningfully support their objectives.

Compliance & Plan Documentation

Work with BHC’s internal resources and outside partners to help clients understand and manage employee benefits compliance requirements, including:

  • ERISA
  • ACA
  • HIPAA
  • COBRA
  • Medicare Part D
  • Form 5500 and Schedule A

  • Nondiscrimination testing
  • CMS reporting and disclosures
  • Business Associate Agreements
  • Administrative Services Agreements
  • Stop-loss contracts
  • Required employee notices and disclosures

Review plan documents and agreements for consistency with the client’s current benefits program and coordinate corrections when needed.

Employee Communication & Enrollment
  • Coordinate annual open enrollment strategy, timelines, meetings, and implementation.
  • Oversee preparation of enrollment guides, benefit summaries, presentations, notices, flyers, and other employee communications.
  • Conduct or participate in benefit fairs, open enrollment meetings, employee education sessions, and one-on-one meetings as needed.
  • Communicate complex benefits information in a clear and understandable way.
  • Coordinate with carriers, vendors, enrollment platforms, and internal team members to ensure accurate implementation.
Leadership & Teamwork

This is a senior client-service position that requires ownership, judgment, and collaboration.

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide direction and guidance to Account Managers, Analysts, enrollment resources, and other team members supporting assigned clients.
  • Delegate appropriately while remaining accountable for the overall client experience.
  • Share knowledge and support the development of less-experienced team members.
  • Work collaboratively with Consultants/Producers while independently managing client responsibilities.
  • Develop expertise in one or more areas of employee benefits and become a resource for clients and colleagues.
  • Represent BHC professionally in client meetings, enrollment meetings, and industry events.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of employee benefits experience in an agency/brokerage, consulting firm, carrier, TPA, administrator, or similar environment preferred.
  • Experience managing mid-sized or large employer benefit plans strongly preferred.
  • Active Life & Health Insurance License or ability to obtain required licensing.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of fully insured group benefits.

  • Knowledge of stop-loss, TPAs, PBMs, captives, and alternative funding strategies is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, Medicare Part D, Form 5500, and related compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple clients, projects, renewals, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to work proactively and anticipate client needs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and related business applications.
  • Experience with Applied EPIC or another agency management system preferred.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality.
  • Ability to travel periodically for client meetings and enrollment needs.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus.

Industry designations or progress toward credentials such as REBC, RHU, CEBS, GBA, CSFS, or similar designations are valued.
