Job summary

Clearway Energy Group seeks a Principal Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Engineer to lead preliminary engineering, fire safety, and procurement support for stand-alone, hybrid, and co-located BESS facilities. This hybrid role can be based in Scottsdale, AZ, San Diego, CA, San Francisco, CA, Houston, TX, or Denver, CO, with Scottsdale preferred.

The role requires 8+ years in BESS engineering, strong technical writing, UL/IEEE knowledge, and experience with EPC contracts.

Qualifications

8+ years of BESS engineering and commissioning experience for utility-scale projects.
Ability to write technical specifications, performance requirements and reports.
Knowledge of UL/IEEE, NFPA codes and interconnection standards.
Experience with EPC contracts and project teams across a pipeline.

Responsibilities

Lead BESS platform development, refining EPC duties and responsibilities.
Evaluate BESS design against safety, technology, regulatory and compliance standards.
Provide SME input to project teams through development, construction and commissioning.
Develop optimal BESS design and operation strategies with cross-functional groups.
Coordinate with customers and suppliers to establish technical requirements.
