Job summary

QuantumScape in San Jose, CA, is seeking a Manufacturing Quality engineer to improve the quality and reliability of solid-state Li metal batteries. You will apply data-driven methods to detect defect modes on cells and develop robust specifications for the manufacturing line.

The role requires a hard sciences background, battery or semiconductor experience, and the ability to communicate complex technical information to diverse stakeholders.

Qualifications

• BS or higher in a quantitative field with strong science/engineering background.
• 5+ years solving complex problems in materials science, physics or engineering.
• Proficient in Python and ML libraries; experience with CV for 2D/3D imaging.
• Experience in manufacturing environments and data-driven decision making.
• Ability to communicate technical results to cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop expertise on battery components and collaborate on inline metrology and imaging post-processing.
• Create computer vision and ML models; build labeling rulebooks and manage data labeling.
• Work with R&D to generate metrics and models capturing defect modes in images.
• Apply statistical methods to large datasets of test outcomes to reveal patterns.
• Build predictive models to relate features in images to electrical performance and drive spec improvements.
• Develop repeatable measurement processes and ensure data uploads feed CTQs and specs.
