Job summary

QuantumScape Battery, Inc. is seeking a Firmware Engineer for the Battery System team in San Jose, CA.

You will develop firmware for the battery pack (bare metal/RTOS), define MCU pinouts, implement protection features and SOC/SOH estimation, and collaborate with hardware engineers during bring-up. Requires 8–9+ years in BMS firmware (or advanced degree with experience), strong embedded C skills, and experience with TI C2000/STM32.

Qualifications

• BMS firmware development experience in lithium-ion systems.
• Strong embedded C programming skills.
• Experience with RTOS and real-time timing considerations.
• Proficiency in SOC/SOH estimation algorithms.
• Experience designing firmware for protection functions and power sequencing.
• Familiarity with hardware peripherals (ADC, PWM, UART) and driver development.

Responsibilities

• Create firmware platform for battery pack with bare metal/RTOS and drivers.
• Define MCU pinouts to allocate peripherals correctly.
• Design protection functions with timing reliability and redundancy.
• Power sequencing and pre-charge control for inrush management.
• Develop SOC/SOH estimation algorithms for solid-state batteries.
• Define states/transitions for all operating modes.
• Minimize operating and sleep mode power consumption.
• Implement firmware read/write protections and upgrade path.
• Collaborate with ODMs to validate firmware protocols.
• Bring up platforms and resolve issues with hardware engineers.
• Provide firmware validation and regression test plans.
