Job summary

General Motors seeks a Senior Electrochemical Process Engineer to lead scalable battery cell formation processes at GM Wallace Battery Cell Innovation Center. You will collaborate with Product Engineering, Manufacturing, and R&D to translate cell requirements into a robust formation strategy and tooling.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in electrochemical process dev, hands-on formation equipment experience, and strong project management with external partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrochemical/chemical/material engineering or related field.
• 5+ years in electrochemical process development for battery-related systems.
• 3+ years hands-on with battery cell formation equipment and scripting.
• Experience with external partners and suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Lead development activities on battery cell material interactions with formation processes.
• Interface with Product Engineering to ensure design supports robust formation.
• Collaborate with R&D to align chemistries roadmap with formation feasibility.
• Translate requirements into scalable formation BOP and BOE.
• Develop in-house formation processes and tooling to improve quality and throughput.
• Evaluate and implement innovative formation technologies for efficiency.
• Support formation equipment hardware/software troubleshooting and maintenance.
• Travel domestically 10-15% and support external partners' development activities.
• Document progress, risks, and mitigation plans to leadership.
