Prometheus Energetics in Bloomington, Indiana, seeks an experienced Ballistician & Igniter Design Engineer to own the interior ballistics lifecycle from sizing and burn rate tailoring to ignition transient modeling and production support.

The role requires 4–10+ years in SRM ballistics, 2D/3D grain optimization, pyrogen igniter hardware design, and proficiency with NASA CEA. Collaboration with chemists, manufacturing, and safety teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
• 4–6 years hands-on experience in solid rocket motor interior ballistics, grain design, or pyrotechnic ignition systems.
• 7–10+ years owning SRM ballistic sizing, 3D grain optimization, or igniter design.
• Proficiency with interior ballistics theory, NASA CEA, and 2D/3D grain design software or scripting environments (Python, MATLAB, Fortran, C++).
• Experience with strand burner, subscale, or full-scale static fire data.

Responsabilités

• Lead interior ballistics analysis and performance prediction for solid rocket motor programs.
• Design and optimize 3D propellant grain geometries to meet constraints.
• Model ignition transients and design end-to-end igniter systems.
• Lead testing campaigns and correlation of models to test data.
• Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
