Job summary

The New York City Department of Investigation (DOI) seeks an experienced Investigator to join the Background Investigation Unit. You will conduct sensitive investigations of individuals considered for City appointments to positions of public trust, analyzing diverse data sources and producing clear investigative reports to guide hiring and promotions.

As part of the BIU, you will manage a large caseload, work in a team environment, and serve as a resource for junior investigators while applying

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include a four-year high school diploma and four years of satisfactory full-time investigative experience, or a bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination.
• Preferred skills emphasize strong writing, communication, attention to detail, discretion, and investigative experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive investigations of individuals for City appointments to positions of public trust.
• Analyze information from diverse sources including financial records, criminal history, employment records, and education credentials.
• Prepare clear, unbiased investigative reports to support hiring decisions.
• Manage a large caseload with time-sensitive goals in a team-driven environment.
• Serve as a resource for junior investigators.
• Apply critical thinking to evaluate information and resolve discrepancies.
