Job summary

State of Washington Dept. of Social and Health Services is seeking a Background Check Specialist 2 to support the statewide Background Check Central Unit.

You will apply specialized knowledge of DSHS background check laws and standards to conduct technical checks and resolve complex issues for department programs, external providers, and the Department of Children, Youth, and Families. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in forms and/or records management.
• High school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience in forms and/or records management.
• Equivalent education/experience substitutes year for year.

Responsibilities

• Conduct technical background checks by reviewing name, birth date, fingerprint data, and related records.
• Use specialized software to conduct background checks and align records across data sources.
• Assess and interpret information from WASIS, WSP RAP sheets, courts, and DOCon records.
• Determine disqualification for unsupervised access to vulnerable populations and report results per laws.
• Research JIS and DOC records to clarify reported information as needed.
