Slate is looking for a Senior Backend Software Developer to help make our software development in the electric vehicle space successful. You will focus on defining and building our digital customer experience.

You must thrive in a fast-paced startup environment where your contributions directly impact the company’s direction and success and should not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software development experience.
• 6+ years of programming with TypeScript, Python, Java, etc.
• 6+ years of experience with AWS and/or Azure cloud services.
• 4+ years of experience contributing to architecture and design (patterns, reliability, scaling).
• 4+ years of SDLC experience including coding standards, reviews, SCM, build, testing, and operations.
• Proficient use of LLM technologies and prompt engineering development patterns.

Responsibilities

• Define, design, architecture, implement, and deliver Slate software.
• Code and test system components; lead code and design reviews.
• Own end-to-end code quality, system tests, functional tests, and integration.
• Collaborate with UX and product teams to build customer-first solutions.
• Mentor team members and guide career development.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO

You lead the definition, design, architecture, implementation, and delivery of Slate software. You code and test system components, leading code and design reviews. You own end‑to‑end code quality, system tests, functional tests, and integration. You relentlessly simplify, demonstrating significant innovation, creativity, and judgement when solving challenging problems. You collaborate with UX and product teams to build and invent new solutions and applications that put customers first. You are considered an authority on technical issues by the technical and business community and are frequently consulted for making difficult trade‑off decisions. You drive awareness about the impact and consequences of technical decisions on the business, balancing technical leadership with strong business judgment to make the right long‑term decisions about technology choices. Support the career development of others, mentor individuals and the community on advanced technical issues and helping managers guide the career growth of their team members.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
• 6+ years of professional software development experience.
• 6+ years of programming experience with at least one modern language, such as TypeScript, Python, Java, etc.
• 6+ years of experience working with cloud services from AWS and/or Azure.
• 4+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
• 4+ years of experience with the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience.
• Proficient use of LLM technologies and prompt engineering development patterns.

SALARY RANGE

The compensation for this position is the range Slate reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job‑related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; work location; and other relevant business and organizational factors.

Base Pay Range (Annual) 135,000.00 - 190,000.00 USD

Additional Compensation and Benefits: Slate offers a wide range of competitive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, vacation, and 401k. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in the equity program and/or a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing such programs.
