Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Access & Authorization team within the Platform group.

You will shape authentication and authorization systems used across Coinbase products, balancing strong security with a simple user experience for customers and partners. In this role, you will design secure APIs, own end-to-end services, and collaborate with product, security, and infra teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience with Go or a similar systems language.
• Experience designing secure APIs and handling OAuth, sessions, tokens, and 2FA.
• Proficiency with gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and data stores like Redis or DynamoDB.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and clear communication.
• Knowledge of AI-assisted workflow improvements is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design, implementation, and operation of authentication, OAuth, sessions, tokens, 2FA, account recovery, and edge authorization.
• Build secure, low-latency Go and gRPC services across web, mobile, API, and partner experiences with observability and SLOs.
• Lead technical designs for signed tokens, passkeys, biometric recovery, device-aware auth, and mobile OAuth.
• Partner with product, security, fraud, and infra teams to balance conversion, protection, regulations, and constraints.
• Simplify integration patterns and build self-service tooling for safe adoption at scale.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews, pairing, code reviews, and on-call participation.
