Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Access & Authorization team. You will design and operate authentication, authorization, and session capabilities powering Coinbase products and partner integrations.

You will build secure, high-throughput Go and gRPC services with strong observability, and mentor colleagues while aligning with security, product, and infra constraints. This role emphasizes reliability and scale.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience in production.
• Experience designing secure APIs and authentication/authorization flows (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWTs).
• Experience with distributed services, reliability, and scalable deployment.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design, implementation, and operation of authentication, OAuth, sessions, tokens, 2FA, account recovery, and edge authorization.
• Build secure, low-latency Go and gRPC services used across Coinbase's product surfaces with strong observability and SLOs.
• Lead technical designs for complex initiatives like signed tokens, passkeys, biometric recovery, and device-aware authentication.
• Partner with product, security, fraud, and infra teams to balance conversion, protection, and regulatory requirements.
• Simplify integration patterns and build self-service tooling for safe adoption at scale.
• Mentor engineers through reviews, pairing, and on-call participation.
