Job summary

Oportun is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and operate scalable platform services and shared libraries that improve developer productivity, reliability, and delivery velocity. You will influence architecture decisions, write high-quality code, and mentor engineers across teams.

You’ll work on ensuring platform reliability and performance while advancing Continuous Delivery practices, security, and scalable systems.

Qualifications

• 7–8 years of related software engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree, or a Master's with equivalent experience.
• Strong backend software development experience.
• Proficiency in Java, C#, C++, or similar languages and solid design principles.
• 3+ years designing, building, deploying, maintaining container-based apps.
• 4+ years using AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience with Continuous Delivery and automated deployments.
• Mentor and lead engineers; contribute to technical leadership.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, deploy, and maintain scalable platform services and libraries.
• Contribute to platform and system architecture decisions focused on reliability and scalability.
• Write high-quality, maintainable code and promote engineering best practices.
• Collaborate to implement standards that support Continuous Delivery.
• Improve monitoring, alerting, and incident response practices.
• Investigate production issues and implement long-term fixes to reduce on-call burden.
• Mentor junior engineers through code reviews and pairing.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver value and drive decisions.
• Explore AI tools to improve productivity and decision-making.
