Job summary

Tala is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Product Development team. You will own backend design, build scalable microservices, and drive reliability across global launches. You will work with engineers across time zones to deliver robust systems and mentor junior staff.

The ideal candidate has deep experience with Java/Kotlin/Scala, REST APIs, cloud infrastructure, and a strong focus on security, testing, and observability. This is a high-impact leadership role.

Qualifications

• Fluency in English and clear written communication.
• Hands-on backend engineering in Java, Kotlin, and/or Scala with Spring.
• Led multiple domain projects on cloud infrastructure using microservices.
• Security and compliance awareness per ISO standards.
• AI fluency and responsible AI-assisted code.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs powering features.
• Author and defend design documents (EDDs) for services.
• Optimize database schemas for performance and reliability.
• Lead domain-level technical initiatives and mentor engineers.
• Define SLIs/SLOs and improve monitoring and availability.
• Own domain roadmap delivery and participate in sprint planning.
