Job summary

Molg in Sterling, VA, is seeking a senior Backend Software Engineer to design and scale production backend systems for our robotics platform. You will own system design, deployment, and reliability, building containerized services and integrating with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, in-person environment.

You have strong systems thinking, hands-on experience with microservices, REST APIs, and modern tooling, and you will mentor teammates while driving architectural decisions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of industry experience developing, deploying, and maintaining production-grade backend systems.
• Proven experience designing and architecting microservices-based systems and RESTful APIs.
• Strong proficiency in at least one high-level object-oriented language (Ruby, Python, Java, etc.).
• Experience with high performance software development is a strong plus (C/C++, Rust, parallelization).
• Experience with containerization (Docker, Docker Compose; Kubernetes a plus) and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar).
• Proficiency with Unix systems, shell scripting, and modern software development practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of scalable backend systems and microservices architecture.
• Own the development lifecycle from system design through deployment, ensuring reliability and performance.
• Architect and deploy containerized applications with a focus on scalability and fault tolerance.
• Build production-grade code with automated testing, monitoring, and QA/QC processes.
• Define and improve CI/CD pipelines to enable rapid iteration while maintaining stability.
• Collaborate with robotics, mechanical, and software teams to integrate backend services.
• Solve large-scale architectural challenges and manage data effectively.
• Mentor junior engineers on backend best practices and participate in architectural discussions.
