Job summary

Ad Hoc is seeking a Staff Software Engineer Back End to work on backend services in a microservices environment. You will design, build, and maintain Java-based services using Spring Boot, REST, and SOAP integrations, collaborating with architects and teams across platforms.

The role emphasizes modernization, production support, testing, and automated pipelines in a remote-friendly setting with stakeholders across government and public services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/SE or related field plus 10+ years of software development.
• 8 years of hands-on Java development experience.
• 5 years of Spring Framework / Spring Boot.
• 5 years of developing REST APIs and web services in a microservices architecture.
• 5 years of experience with Oracle or a relational database.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Git-based source control experience.
• Strong troubleshooting and communication in distributed teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend microservices in Java 17, Spring Boot.
• Implement REST and SOAP services and integrate with the modernized platform and legacy systems.
• Collaborate with architects on modernization plans and roadmaps.
• Mentor junior engineers; perform code reviews and share knowledge.
• Contribute to automated testing and CI/CD processes.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and client-facing technical discussions.
