Job summary

DuckDuckGo is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to own backend systems powering our privacy-focused search product. You’ll work across Perl 5, Go, and Node.js to deliver pragmatic, testable code and mentor other engineers as the Backend Team grows, shaping technical direction and architecture.

You’ll tackle AI-integration work, data pipelines for search relevance, and product improvements for free and paying users.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional backend experience
• Familiar with AI agent tooling: evaluation frameworks, RAG pipelines and prompt engineering
• Strong written and verbal communication to validate decisions
• Ability to mentor engineers and lead backend initiatives

Responsibilities

• Lead complex backend projects across company objectives.
• Write pragmatic, testable code using Perl (Version 5), Go, and Node.js.
• Mentor other engineers as the Backend Team grows.
• Collaborate remotely with peers to solve product issues affecting the privacy solution.
