Job summary

Instacart is seeking a backend engineer to build scalable systems powering routing, fulfillment, and shopper compensation. You will design APIs, implement asynchronous workflows, and collaborate with product, compliance, and other engineering teams.

This role emphasizes reliability, observability, and mentorship in a remote setting. With 5+ years in backend development and experience in Ruby, Python, or Go, you will contribute to logistics platforms used globally, while enjoying flexible work

Qualifications

5+ years of backend development experience.
Fluency in at least one backend language (Ruby, Python, Go).
Strong knowledge of REST/RPC APIs, databases, and distributed system patterns.
Experience building and operating asynchronous, event-driven systems in production.
Excellent communication in cross-functional environments.
Bachelors or Masters in CS/Software Engineering or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

Backend apps for routing, task allocation, fulfillment tracking and shopper compensation.
Lead design for high-impact projects addressing logistics in the marketplace.
Maintain Tier-0 systems with clear ownership and observability.
Align platform practices with product, compliance and engineering stakeholders.
Mentor engineers to improve code quality, testing, and operations.
