Job summary

Uber Engineering is seeking a Sr Backend Software Engineer for the Real-Time Pricing team. You will build scalable systems powering the global marketplace with real-time decision signals and complex algorithms.

You’ll own end-to-end software lifecycle, integrate with prediction systems, and collaborate with Product, Applied Science, UX Design, and Ops to solve high-impact marketplace problems. A strong emphasis on low-latency, high-throughput services applies.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience in backend development, distributed systems, or real-time data processing.
• Proficiency in one or more object-oriented or functional programming languages (Go, Java, Python).
• Track record of leading the design and delivery of complex, multi-quarter projects across team boundaries.
• Experience designing and operating high-throughput, low-latency production services.

Responsibilities

• Own the implementation of complex optimization decision problems and handle low-latency microservices at scale at millions of QPS.
• Understand and integrate with prediction systems, unifying pipelines into a combined real-time serving architecture.
• Own the software lifecycle end-to-end: from design docs through production rollout, debugging live issues, and managing incidents.
• Collaborate across disciplines — Product, Applied Science, UX Design and Ops — to translate ambiguous marketplace problems into robust system designs.
