Job summary

Abbott is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend in Alameda, CA to design, build, and optimize scalable backend systems. You will work with Java Spring Boot to deliver real-time biosensor data processing across global deployments, collaborating with Product, Platform/SRE, and Data/ML teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of experience with distributed, cloud-native systems.
• Strong experience with microservices architecture and REST API design.
• Production Kubernetes experience and service-mesh familiarity.
• Experience with Kafka or RabbitMQ and event-driven patterns.
• Proficiency in Java with Spring Boot; Kotlin/Python a plus.
• Knowledge of HIPAA, GDPR, or equivalent compliance.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimize scalable backend services with Java Spring Boot.
• Implement RESTful APIs and data integrations for real-time biosensor data.
• Ensure observability, reliability, and security across microservices.
• Mentor junior engineers through code reviews and pair programming.
• Collaborate with Product, Platform/SRE, and Data/ML teams.
