Job summary

Wander in San Francisco seeks a Senior to Staff backend engineer to own the Sync layer that unifies external PMS APIs with Wander’s internal services. You will design adapters for vendor REST/HTTP APIs, enforce data coherence, and keep the database as the system of record.

You will prioritize reliability, freshness, and recoverability, resisting over-engineering. The role focuses on maintaining a simple, boring core that scales as more PMS vendors are added, with strong emphasis on correctness

Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend experience building systems that must work
• Experience with REST and HTTP API integrations against third-party systems
• Strong relational DB fundamentals and data recovery concepts

Responsibilities

• Build and own PMS adapters: connect to each vendor's REST/HTTP API and map data to Wander's canonical model
• Build the canonical model and transformers to normalize vendor data
• Make freshness, retries, and recovery observable and reliable
• Keep the database as the source of truth for accepted work and recovery state
• Extend patterns to hotel systems and generalize the canonical model without over-abstracting
• Validate and reconcile third-party data rather than trusting external reports
