Job summary

Ernesta Inc. is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to help build Ernesta’s in-house order management system from the ground up, owning backend architecture for orders, fulfillment, inventory, and integrations with Shopify, Salesforce, and logistics providers.

You will design and implement core services, data models, and APIs, collaborating with Product and Operations to translate business rules into reliable, scalable backend systems. This role offers competitive base pay and potential equity.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience with Node.js and PostgreSQL.
• Experience designing transactional data models for orders, inventory, or fulfillment.
• Experience building integrations with external platforms (Shopify, Salesforce) and payment processors.
• Strong relational database design, indexing, constraints, and migrations.
• Experience with event-driven architectures (queues, webhooks, pub/sub).
• Experience building RESTful APIs and API contracts.
• Familiarity with AWS or GCP, Docker, and CI/CD tooling.
• Ability to work autonomously in a small team and own end-to-end systems.
• Domain experience in order management, ecommerce fulfillment, supply chain, or manufacturing is preferred.
• Strong communication skills with product, operations, and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services for Ernesta’s order management and fabrication system using Node.js and PostgreSQL.
• Own data models and transactional logic for core business entities: orders, line items, fulfillments, inventory, customers, and product SKUs.
• Build and maintain integrations with external systems including Shopify, Salesforce, and logistics providers.
• Implement order lifecycle workflows: creation, confirmation, production, fulfillment, shipping, delivery, and returns.
• Design RESTful APIs and MCP service for internal tools and connect to the broader e-commerce ecosystem.
• Collaborate with the Business Systems Product Manager to translate domain model specifications and business rules into reliable, performant backend systems.
• Translate product specifications — including entity definitions, state machines, and business rules — into physical database schemas, migration strategies, and API contracts.
• Ensure data integrity across systems, defining source-of-truth sync logic and integration contracts between the ERP and external platforms.
• Write automated tests and contribute to CI/CD pipelines to maintain code quality and deployment reliability.
