Job summary

Ernesta designs high-quality, design-focused custom rugs and powers a seamless self-serve buying experience. The Senior Backend Engineer will help build Ernesta’s in-house order management system, owning backend architecture for orders, inventory, and integrations with Shopify, Salesforce, and logistics providers.

You will design data models, APIs, and workflows, collaborate with product and operations, and contribute to tests and CI/CD to ensure reliable delivery of critical business processes.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience with Node.js and PostgreSQL.
• Experience designing transactional data models for orders, inventory, and fulfillment.
• Hands-on experience integrating external platforms (APIs, payment processors).
• Strong relational DB design, indexing, constraints, and migrations.
• Experience with event-driven patterns (queues, webhooks, pub/sub).
• Experience building and documenting RESTful APIs.
• Familiarity with AWS or GCP, Docker, and CI/CD tooling.
• Ability to work autonomously in a small team and own large system areas.
• Domain experience in order management, e-commerce fulfillment, supply chain, or manufacturing is preferred.
• Strong communication skills with product, operations, and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services for Ernesta’s order management and fabrication system using Node.js and PostgreSQL.
• Own the data model and transactional logic for core entities: orders, line items, fulfillments, inventory, customers, and SKUs.
• Build and maintain integrations with Shopify, Salesforce, and third-party logistics providers.
• Implement order lifecycle workflows: creation, production, fulfillment, shipping, delivery, returns.
• Design RESTful APIs and MCP service for internal tools and broader e-commerce connections.
• Collaborate with the Business Systems Product Manager to translate domain rules into reliable backend systems.
• Translate product specs into database schemas, migrations, and API contracts.
• Ensure data integrity across systems and define sync logic and integration contracts.
• Write automated tests and contribute to CI/CD pipelines for quality and reliability.
