Job summary

Backblaze is looking for a senior backend engineer to help develop the storage platform supporting B2 Object Storage and Computer Backup. You will implement host-managed SMR support, optimize throughput and costs, and drive large feature work across thousands of servers.

You’ll collaborate in a remote-friendly environment, contributing to design, testing, and rollout while using AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of object-oriented programming in an enterprise environment with a heavy backend focus.
• Experience building host-managed SMR support for storage systems.
• Experience benchmarking IO performance and resolving bottlenecks.
• Experience building large-scale software systems running on thousands of servers.
• Professional experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Gemini, Cursor, Claude Code).
• Excellent communication in a remote team and proactive collaboration across disciplines.
• Strong problem-solving and traceable design documentation.
