Job summary

SimpliSafe's CLV Monitoring Engineering team is seeking motivated backend engineers to own critical services that connect customers to Monitoring Center specialists. You’ll design, implement, and scale backend features with Node.js/TypeScript, focusing on reliability and performance in a production environment.

You’ll collaborate with product and design, mentor teammates, and drive observability, testing, and architecture decisions.

Qualifications

• Experience owning features end-to-end within a larger product, or taking full ownership of small projects.
• Ability to work with product teams to resolve ambiguity and with other engineering teams to design the right technical solution.
• Demonstrated experience owning technical design for medium-to-large systems (design docs, RFCs, architecture proposals).
• Strong grasp of distributed systems, API design, and data modeling.
• Experience building and maintaining scalable, high-availability production services.
• Proficiency in a modern language (TypeScript, C#, etc.) with willingness to learn new tools and languages.
• Proficiency in a modern, cloud-scale NoSQL database.
• Proficiency in implementing modern observability frameworks and logging, and using them to diagnose real issues in production systems.
• Familiarity with AI tools across research, design, and implementation, with senior-level judgment to direct and review work.
• Collaborative mindset, strong customer focus, and passion for learning.
• Nice-to-haves: CI/CD & test automation, cloud infra concepts, experience with NestJS/Kafka/Redis/DynamoDB/MongoDB, AI tooling workflows.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical design for complex backend features, writing design docs, evaluating tradeoffs, and driving decisions on architecture, data models, and API contracts.
• Design and implement backend services in Node.js/TypeScript with a focus on reliability, scalability, and performance.
• Develop and maintain testing strategies to ensure services stay performant and maintainable as they scale.
• Own services end-to-end, from design through production, including observability and resolving performance bottlenecks and technical debt.
• Collaborate with product, design, and other engineering teams to turn ambiguous problems into well-scoped technical solutions.
• Act as a technical lead on projects, setting direction, unblocking teammates, and reviewing designs and code.
• Mentor engineers on technical design and backend best practices.
