Job summary

SimpliSafe in Boston is seeking a backend-focused engineer to own and design critical systems that connect customers to our Monitoring Center specialists.

You will build services in Node.js/TypeScript, emphasize reliability and performance, and mentor peers while collaborating with product and design teams.

Qualifications

• Experience owning complete features solo within a larger product or taking full ownership of small projects.
• Track record collaborating with product teams to resolve ambiguity and with other engineering teams to design the right technical solution.
• Experience designing for medium-to-large systems with design docs, RFCs, and architecture proposals.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, API design, and data modeling.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical design for complex backend features, writing design docs and driving architecture decisions.
• Design and implement backend services in Node.js/TypeScript with focus on reliability and scalability.
• Develop and maintain testing strategies to keep services performant as they scale.
• Own services end-to-end from design through production, including observability and debt reduction.
• Collaborate with product, design, and other teams to turn ambiguous problems into technical solutions.
• Act as a technical lead on projects, set direction and review designs.
• Mentor engineers on technical design and backend best practices.
