Randstad Digital Americas is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer (Java / AWS) to join a core engineering delivery team within a major national passenger transportation organization's Corporate & Operations Technologies division. Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in Java (Java 17+), Spring Boot, and Python.
• Extensive hands-on AWS experience (ECS/Fargate, EventBridge, SQS, SNS, Lambda, S3, CloudWatch).
• Relational DB experience with PostgreSQL/Aurora PostgreSQL; schema design and query tuning.
• CI/CD and IaC experience with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline, CloudFormation.
• Unit and integration testing with JUnit and Mockito.
• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, deploy, and maintain scalable microservices, RESTful APIs, and event-driven architectures using Java 17+ and AWS services.
• Architect multi-region, fault-tolerant solutions with robust disaster recovery.
• Investigate production incidents, perform RCA, and enhance observability with CloudWatch.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, CodePipeline and IaC with CloudFormation.
• Model relational data and optimize queries on PostgreSQL/Aurora PostgreSQL.
• Provide mentorship and enforce automated testing standards (JUnit, Mockito).

Working closely with Principal Systems Engineering leadership, you will take hands-on ownership of resilient, multi-region AWS architectures, event-driven pipelines, and automated CI/CD workflows, ensuring five-nines reliability, rapid disaster recovery, and seamless B2B data exchange.

Responsibilities

• Cloud-Native & Integration Architecture: Design, build, deploy, and maintain scalable microservices, RESTful APIs, and event-driven architectures utilizing Java 17+, Spring Boot, Python, and AWS integration services.
• Resiliency & Disaster Recovery: Architect fault-tolerant, high-availability solutions across multiple AWS Availability Zones and Regions, conducting failover testing and actively reducing Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR).
• Production Operations & Root Cause Analysis: Investigate complex production incidents, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and implement robust observability frameworks using Amazon CloudWatch.
• DevOps & Pipeline Automation: Build, maintain, and optimize continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines leveraging GitHub Actions, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline, and CloudFormation infrastructure-as-code (IaC).
• Data Modeling & Optimization: Implement relational data models, craft complex queries, and tune database performance on Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.
• Mentorship & Quality Standards: Drive peer code reviews, champion automated testing standards (JUnit, Mockito), and provide technical mentorship to junior developers.

Qualifications

• Experience: 7+ years of professional backend software engineering experience building and supporting distributed, high-availability production systems.
• Core Languages: Advanced, hands-on proficiency in Java (Java 17+), Spring Boot, and Python.
• AWS Cloud Engineering: Extensive hands-on experience across core AWS integration and compute services, including ECS/Fargate, EventBridge, SQS, SNS, Lambda, S3, and CloudWatch.
• Database & Performance: Strong relational database background with PostgreSQL / Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimization, and tuning.
• CI/CD & IaC: Practical experience managing automated deployments using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline, and CloudFormation.
• Testing: Demonstrated proficiency with automated unit and integration testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito).
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
