Phorest, a leading SaaS provider for the salon and spa industry, is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join its global engineering team. You will design, build, and maintain scalable backend services powering thousands of salons and medspas worldwide.

The role emphasizes Java expertise, RESTful APIs, and modern cloud technologies like Docker and Serverless, with a collaborative, growth-minded culture.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in Java and OO design.
• Experience building backend services in production.
• RESTful APIs; GraphQL experience is a bonus.
• Good understanding of JavaScript and modern web tech.
• Knowledge of scalable, distributed systems and trade-offs.
• Care for testing, maintainability and long-lasting software.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services and systems.
• Collaborate with engineers, PMs and designers to translate requirements into features.
• Contribute to technical design discussions and architecture decisions.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code following best practices.
• Build and improve RESTful APIs and integrations for the platform.
• Take ownership of features from design to deployment and improvement.
• Participate in code reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Identify opportunities to improve systems and development processes.
• Stay curious about emerging technologies and bring practical solutions.
