Job summary

Motive is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Equipment Monitoring team. You will build backend systems that ingest IoT telemetry from asset gateways and sensors, delivering real-time location and health data for fleets.

You will design and operate Kafka/Flink pipelines and APIs, working with Embedded and IoT teams to ensure scalable data flows. Hybrid work is available, with a focus on engineering excellence and high-quality software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in CS or related field, with 5+ years of software development experience.
• Experience building distributed, event-driven systems using Kafka or Flink.
• Proficiency in Ruby, Golang, or Kotlin/Java; strong database experience with PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis, Cassandra.
• Experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or private clouds; IoT data and geospatial systems a plus.
• Hybrid in-office two days per week.

Responsibilities

• Develop highly observable, reliable, and scalable backend services that process telemetry from hundreds of thousands of IoT devices.
• Build and operate stream-processing pipelines (Kafka, Flink, Kinesis) powering geo-fencing, alerting, trip construction, and asset location.
• Design, build, and maintain scalable APIs for internal and external applications.
• Collaborate with Embedded, IoT, and cross-functional teams on device data contracts and end-to-end feature delivery.
• Champion engineering excellence by proactively reducing technical debt and improving code quality.
